October 21, 2019 was the 50th anniversary of Jack Kerouac’s passing, so I went to Lowell for a service at the Archambault Funeral Home, where his wake had been in 1969. (The current director told us about Dylan driving in on his bus in the 70s for Kerouac tributes on what must’ve been the Rolling Thunder Revue tour!) ✨ It was pretty surreal to be there, with books, memorabilia (the bobble heads!), and amazing family photos from the real people of “On The Road”… Then there was a tour through Lowell seeing key places like the now-defunct Catholic cathedral where his funeral was and the library he went to, and we ended up at a classic tavern. 🍺 It was pretty wild to reflect on how this guy Kerouac is one of the reasons I became a writer, why I ended up at Naropa to go to the Kerouac School, how I met @bajoing and Kristen and all the peeps, introduced Owen to him in HS and he became a superfan…it’s pretty wild to think one person can have such an effect on so many people’s lives and inspire so many with their art and their example. 📚 I was glad to meet Kerouac’s nephew Jim Sampas and my new friend Alex, who traveled from Paris 🇫🇷 and hitchhiked from Seattle to document events and places like this across 🇺🇸…I could write a lot more but am very tired from living like a beatnik again last night, so maybe I’ll take it to the interwebs at Houseshow Mag or elsewhere… 👩🏻‍🎨 #kerouac #ontheroad #writers #newengland #beatnik
